District Rec - Travel

SCOG DISTRICT RECREATIONAL TRAVEL PROGRAM

The Soccer Club of Guilford’s District Recreational Travel program is a seasonal commitment available to Guilford residents only. The age groups are U11 to U14, with an occasional older age group. The number of teams arranged each season are determined by the number of registrants by the district deadline. Typicaly, age groups are combined to make the teams such as U12 (U11 and U12 combined), U14 (U13 and U14 combined). The teams will be placed in appropriate divisions and will engage in out of town, CJSA South Central District play. All teams will have the option of participating in one District Recreational tournament per season and Spring teams will also participate in the District Commissioner’s Cup tournament held in Cheshire.

Players will be asked to commit to one practice a week and at least one game on the weekend. In addition, an optional (but recommended) weekly Skills Clinic is offered during the week. The Skills Clinic is run by SCOG Recreational Director, Dave Yerby and is included in the registration fee. Coaches of District Recreational teams are encouraged to invite Dave Yerby to attend their practice to provide additional support and instruction to both the players and coaches.

District Recreational Travel Teams are coached by parent volunteers. Typically, there is one Head Coach, one Assistance Coach to assist with the communication and scheduling of games.

Connecticut Junior Soccer Association (CJSA) is the governing body of youth soccer in Connecticut and CJSA is comprised of seven districts; Guilford is under the jurisdiction of the South Central District (SCD). District Recreational Travel teams participate in SCD league play which includes the following towns:

Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Clinton, Coginchaug, Derby, Durham, East Haven, Hamden, Guilford, Madison, Meriden, Middefield, Milford, Naugatuck, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Oxford, Prospect, Seymour, Shelton, Southington, Stratford, Wallingford, West Haven, Woodbridge.
