- Liability and medical release form on file with the team – consent for medical treatment
- Medications – please have parents advise you of any requirements for medications, especially the need to administer prescription drugs and by whom.
- Allergies, asthma – inhalers, etc.
- Bees stings, poison ivy – ointments, injections, etc.
- Physical limitations due to preexisting conditions and recent injuries (back, knee, ankle, neck, etc. – have the parents keep you informed
- Sickness due to common cold, flu, other disease or medical conditions – have the player stay home and get better, have the parents keep you informed
- Heat stress – prevention is the best way to deal with this – Have plenty of water on hand at practices and games. Allow for liquid replenishment after the practices and games.
- Concussion management is very simple:
- Know that any blow to the head must be treated as serious, until proved otherwise – symptoms vary and may you may not experience symptoms immediately. Some symptoms include headache, blurred vision, numbness, disorientation, loss of memory, etc.
- Action is required - immediate restriction from play until diagnosed
- We must avoid a second impact during brain remediation – this could result in permanent brain damage!
- See your doctor
- The athlete that is concussed, should be sent for a medical evaluation
- Any symptoms or medical evaluation results showing injury exists, athlete should not be allowed to play.
- Athlete should only return to play after being asymptomatic for a period of time as required their doctor.
- Return to play may be decided based on doctor evaluations, clearance on diagnostic testing, etc.
- Make sure that you are aware of the return-to-play requirements.
